There are few things in life as delightful as a good piano concert...but Jeff Perks takes it to another level. Last night at White Bluff United Methodist Church Jeff Perks (Savannah's own) put on a fabulous free concert just to give back to the community. Jeff now is music director at a huge church near Charlotte. For four years Jeff was the number one pianist and entertainer for Carnival Cruise LInes. Each year when they'd launch a new ship, Jeff was the piano player they had to inaugurate the vessel. A few years ago Jeff was playing at a wedding reception when a lady approached and announced to him that she was one of First Lady Laura Bush's assistant and would like to invite him to play a Christmas concert at the White House! He did and actually played two.
Along with him last night was a soloist he'd brought with him from Charlotte and from here, soloiost Rachael Hopkins and another fine young piano player James Allen were also on the agenda. James, a freshman at Savannah Arts Academy accompanied Jeff on a piano duet while Rachael did one of the most incredible renditions of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" I've ever heard.
It was a special evening and if you missed it you can at least hear his wonderful music by going to his website www.jeffperks.com and you can order some of his fantastic CDs. Check it out.
