On Friday and Saturday, February 1-2nd, the Visual Arts Department in collaboration with Savannah Magazine will be setting sail for their Fifth Annual Junk 2 Funk Fashion Show, “The Seven Seas.” Under the direction of Visual Arts Instructors, Trellis Payne and Meghan Scoggins, student designers will feature “trash” that has been creatively transformed into more than 60 pieces of uniquely constructed wearable art and avant garde fashion. The “Seven Seas” themed show will transport guests on a voyage around the world, celebrating culture and couture. As a result of last year’s sell-out crowds, this year’s Junk 2 Funk Fashion Show will offer three events - a Friday evening show at 7:00pm and Saturday shows at 2:00pm and 7:00pm. General admission tickets are $15 for the Friday show and Saturday matinee show. General admission tickets are $20 for the Saturday 7:00pm awards show and after-party in front of the school on Washington Avenue.
Student designers will compete for prizes and will be judged by the official “Junk Jury” comprised of Savannah designers and Project Runway contestants, Mitchell Hall and April Johnston, Savannah College of Art and Design’s House of Fashion Chair, Carmela Spinelli, and other local style experts. Winners will be determined based on the following criteria: use of recycled materials, design innovation, quality of craftsmanship and “WOW” factor in presentation. The event will feature student choreography and performances by the Savannah Arts Dance Department as well as musical entertainment by Savannah Arts Academy’s new rock band.
Don’t miss the boat! Tickets for this sell-out event will be available online only at www.seatyourself.biz/saa
