Hurricane Dorian Update

Jasper County is currently under a Hurricane Warning and Storm Surge Warning. Starting September 4th at 5 PM Flash Flood Watch.  

The Governor’s evacuation order continues to remain in effect for Zone A in Jasper County. Residents who reside in Zone A of Jasper County should put their emergency plans into action and evacuate inland. If winds exceed 39mph sustained, Emergency Services will NOT respond to calls for service. If citizens choose to disregard the mandatory evacuation, they are assuming responsibility for their own safety. 

The local shelter is open at the Ridgeland/Hardeeville School Complex located at 250 Jaguar Trail Ridgeland, SC 29936. This shelter cannot support evacuees with special medical needs. Citizens with special medical needs should call (855)-472-3432 for assistance.  

South Carolina DOT will be closing Speedway Blvd(US 17) just south of the intersection of S Okatie Hwy (SC315) in support of Georgia DOT closing the Talmadge Bridge at 8 PM September 3rd.  

The county recycling centers will be closed, per normal business operations tomorrow, September 4th. County offices will remain closed tomorrow September 4th. The Jasper County School District will remain closed the rest of the week as of September 3rd.  

Evacuees seeking shelter should bring with them essential hygiene products, essential bedding items, essential documents, 72 hours of food supply for those with restrictive diets, and at least a seven day supply of medication and oxygen. The shelter will accommodate some household pets. Evacuees with pets must bring pet food, 6-foot maximum leash, and a current vaccination tag. It is strongly incuraged that you bring a pet crate for your pet.  

The Jasper County School District began transportation pickup routes on Monday, September 2nd. Transportation assistance will continue through Wednesday, September 4th. Citizens can receive transportation assistance at the locations listed below from 8:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Buses will attempt to visit each location every hour. Some locations may not have personnel on-site. Citizens may have to wait outside for transportation. Citizens with mobility concerns can call (843) 726-4421 extension 8 for assistance.  ·

National Weather Service weather re-broadcast through Nixle has been turned off for the duration of Hurricane Dorian. The Emergency Operations Center will manually publish weather alerts as needed.
