SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -
The search continues for the man who kidnapped a pregnant nurse from the parking lot of Candler Hospital, forced her to drive down an alley and sexually assaulted her.
Local car dealer O.C. Welch took out a half-page ad in the Sunday paper offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the rapist.
Attorney Mark Tate has filed a lawsuit on the victim's behalf in Chatham County Superior Court, claiming the hospital had inadequate security and should've been on alert before the attack happened.
"There have been several rapes and attacks at Savannah State that were stranger rapes and attacks," Tate said in an interview Monday. "And those types of things, once they're known, in the security community should trigger an enhanced level of security."
Police have not said whether the Candler attack may be related to the December sexual assaults of two women in their early 20's on the campus of Savannah State University.
It's been just over a week since the nurse was abducted while parking her car at Candler at 7:30 in the morning. She was on the way in to start her shift.
Tate tells says his client's unborn child is healthy and that she's doing as well as can be expected.
"Her spirit is clearly crushed, and she is clearly a scared and shattered young woman," Tate said. "Certainly she never expected this, but I'm sure they have good support to get through it."
Because of the ongoing police investigation and pending lawsuit, Candler officials are not commenting on camera on the case. But they did release a statement.
"St. Joseph's/Candler expresses our deep concern for the victim and her family. Our prayers are with her during this unimaginable time."
